For Allison Nicola 16 years ago, life was very different. She lived life on the edge, taking to the slopes at any opportunity. She was age 15 when the accident happened; going too fast over a 40-foot jump in a snowboarding competition, she shattered her ninth and tenth thoracic vertebrae. Now, paralyzed from the waist down, Allison still seeks a life full of adventure.
Based in Florida now, working as a mental health therapist. Her goal in life is to show people that they can rethink their abilities. When someone tells her that they can’t do something, she says, “Look at me! Yes, you can!”
The sand is not kind to her wheelchair but that hasn’t stopped Allison from enjoying the water. Scuba diving has given her a new kind of freedom. And that’s not the end of the road!
Next Allison plans to catch her own dinner with a speargun, as she explores Florida’s Gulf waters, and who knows what will come after that!
Allison is already making a splash within her local area http://www.fox13news.com/news/local-news/266245950-story and will be fundraising at the worlds largest spearfishing tournament the St Pete Open next month.
