Kevin heard about the Dive Pirates during his rehab at TIRR, after a motorcycle accident caused a complete spinal cord injury resulting in paraplegia. With a background in diving before his accident, he signed up for a Try-Dive event with the Dive Pirates at Seanic Ocean Systems; an engineering company in Katy, Texas with a large test tank. Feeling comfortable in the water, and enjoying meeting people with similar interests, he said “sign me up!”
“Barbara Thompson and the Dive Pirate volunteers did a great job of assessing my skill level and capabilities and were able to support me both in and out of the water. The Seanic facility provided the perfect setting and amenities with a support staff that was great to work with. The experience with dive pirate and Seanic has given me the confidence to expand my outdoor activities in a safe and comfortable environment.”
Kevin is now a recipient of the Dive Pirates Foundation, and is training to be an adaptive scuba diver and travel with other divers from around the US. Your donations will go directly to cover the costs of his training, equipment and travel so he can experience the freedom and mobility of diving.
