New Pirates join the crew!

Lets start with a little business:

We have concluded the voting by the membership on the proposed new members to the Board of Directors. With a quorum of those eligible to vote, here is the board to take effect July 1, 2018 under the direction of President Sophie Wimberley:
President Elect: Gardiner Henderson
Treasurer: Gillian Tilbury
Secretary: Hallie Byth
Board Member: Allen West
Board Member: Janeen Judah

Barbara Thompson will roll into the position of immediate past president and board members Jose Grinan and Preston McFarren rolled off of the board and may reapply after one year if they so choose. They remain active members of the crew and we thank everyone for taking part in this process.

Just as a reminder according to our new bylaws we will have two board members roll off each year and two new come on. So we will see some form of this process each year, with all membership at a captain’s level or higher eligible to vote starting July 1, 2018.

Meet the new crew!

For our new kids on the blog, Sophie Wimberley will be taking over as president July 1, 2018. Sophie is one of the three original founders of Dive Pirates, and she bleeds pirate. She is most happy under water or teaching others how to dive.  She is a RAID Instructor Trainer and a DAN Instructor Trainer.

Sophie has her doctorate in Pharmaceutical studies and is the Director, Global Medical In Oncology for Merck & Co., Inc.

Gardiner Henderson will be joining us as president-elect,
working closely with Sophie andNew President Elect 2018 the board to get up to speed.  A long time pirate, he was a board member from 2006-2010 and secured much needed matching funds from his employer at the time, while also leveraging contacts in the industry for support and awareness. He currently works for  Flotek  as Senior Vice President, Operations.
Gillian Tilbury has served as treasurer for the past year and will continue keeping the books for the crew. She has been diving since the mid-80’s and is an SSI OWI and SSI Classified Instructor. Known to her fellow pirates as Gangplank Gilly, she has been a supporter of Dive Pirates for many years and is now coordinating efforts for our Fundraising Committee. When not plundering the seas, Gillian is a Managing Director for The Carnrite Group.

Hallie Byth has been our secretary for as long as I can remember… and is willing to continue her duties as scribe for the crew.  She is also a Dive Control Specialist with SSI,  a SSI Classified Dive Buddy and has been diving since 2003. She is working as a petroleum engineer with Chevron.

New Board Member 2018 Janeen Judah

New board member Janeen Judah
Janeen is currently an independent director for a publicly traded corporation and recently retired as an executive at Chevron. She was also the 2017 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International. She is a PADI Open Water Instructor, longtime fish counter as a member of REEF, certified yoga instructor and bad golfer. (her words people, not mine… she hasn’t played with me yet, I define bad) lets play sometime Janeen!
