Avery Downing

Avery is an amazing young lady, an accomplished gymnast who fell while practicing on the unevenbars, a fall that caused a spinal cord injury. Now a person with paraplegia, Avery is very independent and drives herself. She loves a challenge and has been looking forward to diving.

Marlene Krpata

Captain Marlene Krpata Marlene was a leg limb salvage after suffering a mortar attack while serving in Iraq.  In 2011 she decided to amputate her leg below the knee.  Since her amputation she has been back playing softball and running around with her nieces and nephew.  Swimming in the ocean has had a calming effect…

Chris Hocker

Chris is from the Salt Lake City, UT area and is an enthusiastic addition to our crew.  He has overcome left side paralysis as a child to learn many activities which now includes scuba diving.  He is part of our class of 2010, and promises to be on every trip from now on.

Alex Nicoll

PFC Alex was a PFC in the USMC and described his job as “kicking in doors”.  He was injured in Fallujah and is missing part of his leg.  He did so well in scuba and liked the island so much, don’t be surprised if he shows up next year as your dive master!

Dawn Halfaker

Captain Dawn was injured by a RPG attack while serving as a Lt in Iraq with the Military Police.  She was promoted to Captain prior to her discharge and is now the owner of a Security consulting firm and a graduate student at George Washington University.  She went with Dive Pirates to the Brac in…
